Relocated from Rome to the frozen alpines of Aosta, the weed-smoking, antisocial Rocco Schiavone is a cranky detective far from the comforts of his home. His dislike for his new surroundings makes life miserable for his colleagues and locals, but gives audiences one of Italy's best character-driven cop shows. The reason behind Schiavone's transfer from the capital to the cold mountains in Italy's North West isn't immediately clear; audiences get flashbacks to unveil his past while he is trying to solve complex crimes in the present. He is moody, misanthropic, scathing, sophisticated, suave and searingly funny.
